You're not behind on rest
Apr 22, 2026
There’s this assumption many of us carry without noticing it, that if we were doing rest “properly,” we would feel more rested by now. More calm. More regulated. More at ease.
So when we don’t, it can start to feel like something is wrong. Like we’re behind or like we’re missing something, but most of the time, that’s not what’s happening.
The issue isn’t that you don’t rest…
It’s that you rarely arrive in it.
Rest doesn’t begin with effort. It begins with contact.
And in a full day of thinking ahead, holding things together, and moving quickly from one thing to the next, that contact gets interrupted again and again. A small shift
Instead of asking:`
“What do I need to do to rest better?”
Try asking:
“When did I last fully arrive in my experience?”
Not as a judgment, but more as a noticing.
A simple practice: The arriving pause
Pause for a moment.
Feel your feet or the surface beneath you.
Notice your breath.
And name one sensation in your body.
That’s it.
No need to change anything.
Most nervous systems don’t need more input. They need more moments of arrival. Small returns to what is already here.
If you want to deepen this way of working with rest in everyday life, it’s what we explore inside The Rested You. Not more effort, but more contact with yourself in the middle of real life.
If this resonates with you, we invite you to pause, breathe, and reclaim your rest. Join The Rested You membership for guided practices, community support, and a space to reconnect with what truly nourishes you.
